Three people have been arrested and charged with selling large quantities of heroin in Becker and Mahnomen Counties, including the White Earth Reservation.

David Lee Verner, 38; Vincent Van Verner, 57; and Pamela Marie Hilliard-Sykes, 38, all of Chicago, were charged in Becker County District Court with two felony counts of first-degree controlled substance crime.

Following a month-long investigation, the Minnesota State Patrol stopped a vehicle in Detroit Lakes about 5:30 p.m. Jan. 8.

With the help of a Becker County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, officers found and seized about 196 grams of purported heroin, two grams of purported cocaine, and $6,274 in cash, according to a news release from the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.

Agencies involved in the investigation include the West Central Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force, the Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force, the BCA Anti-Heroin Task Force, the Detroit Lakes Police Department; the White Earth Police Department, the Becker County Sheriff's Office, the Mahnomen County Sheriff's Office, and the State Patrol.
