Two Becker County men are facing serious assault charges after a man was knocked unconscious during a fight, then smashed in the head with a cinder block, causing life-threatening injuries.
Wesley Robert Warren, 21, of Ponsford, and Warren Justin Brown, 26, of Waubun both are charged with felony first- and second-degree assault. Warren also faces two counts of second-degree assault.
According to court records, at 12:39 a.m. June 3, a man who was dropped off at a party found Warren arguing with a woman there. The man initially knocked Warren and Brown to the ground, and then the two fought back and knocked the man unconscious.
As the two were leaving the yard, Warren came back, grabbed a cinder block, and, according to a witness, raised it over his head and threw it from about 5 feet away, hitting the unconscious man in the head. Warren then went through the man’s front and back pockets, according to court records.
When a deputy arrived, the victim was found unconscious, bleeding from the nose and both eyes, with visible swelling to the head. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
As of June 4, the victim (who was not identified in the criminal complaint) remained hospitalized and unconscious with life-threatening injuries, according to court records.
On June 5, District Judge Mike Fritz set cash bail for Warren at $500,000 or bond at $500,000, with standard conditions of release, or bond at $1 million with no conditions.
He set bail for Brown at $10,000 or bond at $100,000, with standard conditions of release, or bond at $250,000 with no conditions.
