Editor's Note: A previous version of this story included: On Monday, Sept. 20, the AmericInn in Detroit Lakes was cited for failure to pay lodging tax under city ordinance. That posting has been removed because the AmericInn paid their overdue taxes on Monday and were not cited. The case is closed and the matter considered resolved.

The following reports were compiled from the Becker County Sheriff’s Office and Detroit Lakes Police Department from an official with knowledge of the cases, unless otherwise noted.

Monday, Sept. 20

9:28 a.m., 33000 block 120th Street, Frazee, fatal house fire. By the time firefighters arrived, the structure had burnt to the ground. One person was found dead.

10:41 a.m., 38000 block Dora Lee Road, Waubun, a mailed check and $50 was stolen before arriving at its destination. The check was then forged and cashed by an individual. The case is under investigation.

Tuesday, Sept. 21

6:48 a.m., 47000 block County Road 44, Ponsford, burglary. A barn, shed and garage were broken into and a chainsaw, various tools and batteries were stolen.

7:58 a.m., 13000 block County Road 119, Menahga, a vehicle struck a road grader. A 17-year-old male suffered a gash on his head and was transported to a nearby medical clinic for treatment.

8:37 a.m., 100 block Meadow Lane, Detroit Lakes, vehicle burglarized while parked in a garage. A wallet was stolen from the vehicle.

8:54 a.m., 100 block Willow Street, Detroit Lakes, multiple ladders stolen from a residence within the last week.

1:14 p.m., near County Road 34 and County Road 21, Becker County, a male was found on the roadway as the victim of a potential assault. No medical transport was needed.

1:29 p.m., 200 block West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes, domestic incident involving a father and step-son. No medical attention was needed and no arrests were made.

2:15 p.m., 200 block east Willow Street, Detroit Lakes, suicide related. The caller reported a friend was having suicidal thoughts. After talking with law enforcement, it was determined that no medical evaluation was needed.

3:42 p.m., near Highway 34 and County Road 29, Detroit Lakes, miscellaneous items were stolen from a store and a pile of garbage was left in the parking lot. The case is under investigation.

7:27 p.m., 1400 block East Shore Drive, Detroit Lakes, vehicle damaged while parked.

8:02 p.m., 46000 block Nokomis Road, Ponsford, physical domestic. A woman’s children reported their mother’s boyfriend was hurting her. No medical attention was needed. The man was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

Wednesday, Sept. 22

3:21 p.m., at Detroit Lakes High School at 1301 Roosevelt Avenue, Detroit Lakes, tobacco-related incident.

5:23 p.m., 300 block east Frazee Street, Detroit Lakes, parked vehicle damaged.

5:34 p.m., 300 block Park Lake Boulevard, Detroit Lakes, scam involving a bad check which allowed the account holder to overdraw their funds.

9:03 p.m., 100 block east Spruce Avenue, Frazee, suicide related. A 15-year-old male had made suicidal comments. Law enforcement discussed the incident with his parents and a medical evaluation was not needed.

11:16 p.m., mile maker 61 on Highway 34, Osage, fatal rollover. Mathew Michael Gibson, 21, of Osage, rolled his vehicle and died at the scene. Seatbelt not in use and alcohol believed to have been involved.
