Crime and fire report: burglars target neighboring businesses along Highway 59

The following items were taken from incident reports at the Becker County Sheriff's Office and the Detroit Lakes Police Department:

Tuesday Oct. 13

  • At 8:29 a.m., a burglary was reported at 59 Trade Roads pawn shop on Highway 59 in Detroit Lakes. Entry was apparently gained through a back door, but it's not clear if anything was stolen.
  • At 9:13 a.m., the ongoing theft of mail was reported by a resident on the 20900 block of Kennedy Acres Road, off Highway 59 in rural Detroit Lakes. The incident is under investigation and there is a suspect in the case.
  • At 9:51 a.m., a burglary was reported at Tri-State Transmission and Driveline on Highway 59 in Detroit Lakes. The caller reported hearing a neighboring business had a break-in and when the caller checked their property, they also noticed a forced entry. The caller also said the suspect left their burglary tools behind. Both cases are being treated as linked and are under investigation.
  • At 11:45 a.m., a theft was reported on the 31000 block of County Road 35, near Round Lake in rural Ponsford. The caller reported a chainsaw was taken off their porch. The case is under investigation and there is a suspect.
  • At 1:24 p.m., the theft of prescription medication was reported on the 21000 block of Coaley Bay Drive, near Floyd Lake.

Wednesday Oct. 14

  • At 6:59 p.m., a damaged mailbox was reported on the 12000 block of 353rd Avenue, near Highway 87, in rural Frazee.
  • At 10:07 p.m., a theft was reported at Menards. The caller reported a previous shoplifting incident and requested an officer pick up the completed report.
