Darwin E. Bellanger, 76, of White Earth, died Thursday, February 2, 2006 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes.

Darwin E. Bellanger was born to William and Charlotte (Legue) Bellanger on June 11, 1929 in White Earth, where he was raised and educated. Darwin served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the Army, he lived in California until returning to White Earth in 1966. He worked as a night watchman for the Regional Treatment Center (RTC) and congregate housing in White Earth, retiring in 1994.

Darwin enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, western movies, trapping and dancing.

Surviving Darwin are his three daughters, Tammy (Jeff) Bellanger of Waubun, Danette (Jermiah) Wolff of Moorhead and Jeniffer Bellanger of International Falls, Minn.; two sons, Marvin (Claudia) Bellanger of White Earth and Dale (Karen) Leitch of Fergus Falls; one brother, Lowell (Marge) Bellanger of White Earth; and 13 grandchildren. Preceding Darwin in death were his son, Rick; his parents; three sisters; four brothers; and his companion, Goldie Hanks.

A mass of Christian burial was held Monday, Feb. 6 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in White Earth, with the Rev. Mietek Bajek, OMI, officiating. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, White Earth. The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes has been serving the family.
