The future of the Dent elementary school will be explored by a newly formed committee.

A coalition of Dent residents, school officials, and school board members is in the process of being assembled.

Facing severe budget cuts over the next two years, the closing of the Dent elementary school has been voiced as one option to reduce expenses.

The decision to form the Dent "focus group" was made at the March 14 Perham-Dent school board meeting.

"The options could range from doing nothing and keeping the school open...to putting a different program out at Dent," said school Superintendent Tamara Uselman.

She stressed the importance that the Dent community be fully involved in the discussion.
