A Detroit Lakes man was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 10 year supervised probation for burglarizing his parent’s house.
Sean Patrick Menard, 28, was granted a stay of imposition, which means if he does not violate his probation, the felony conviction will not go on his record.
Menard was convicted of felony second-degree burglary, but a felony charge of theft of a motor vehicle, as well as one misdemeanor of possessing pharmaceutical items typically used for drug use or distribution was dismissed.
According to the report, Menard was living with his parents up until July 7 under strict conditions.
On July 10, his parents filed a complaint with police alleging that after Menard refused to adhere to their conditions and was told he was not allowed back into the house, he broke into their basement window and took several items, including a $3,000 diamond ring.

Police determined Menard had pawned the ring off at a Fargo pawn shop the on July 11.
He is also being charged with taking his parent’s vehicle after he was told he could no longer use it.
A Detroit Lakes Police officer spotted that vehicle on July 12 driving on West Lake Drive in Detroit Lakes.
Menard, who was driving the vehicle, was taken into custody after a search of the car produced syringes, a scale, clear capsules and other pharmaceutical items.
According to the complaint, Menard admitted to authorities that it was him that broke into the residence and stole the diamond ring.
