A Detroit Lakes man was sentenced recently in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of third degree sale of a controlled substance.
Mark Allen Nordlund, 37, of 525 Washington Ave., Detroit Lakes, was given a stayed prison sentence of 33 months on conditions including completion of six months in jail, up to 20 years of supervised probation and community service in lieu of $1,160 in court fines and fees.
According to the criminal complaint, the charges against Nordlund stemmed from an Aug. 30, 2010 incident in which a confidential informant of local law enforcement arranged to meet with Nordlund, allegedly for the purchase of methamphetamine.
After the informant paid him $220 in cash (marked bills), Nordlund said he was waiting for his supplier to arrive; a short time later a Chevy Suburban pulled up outside and he went to meet with them. He appeared to be exchanging the money for something with one of the vehicle's passengers.
Nordlund then came back inside and gave the informant a clear plastic baggie that had a white crystalline substance inside; the substance in the baggie was later identified through testing as .4 grams of meth.
