DL man successfully discharged from probation

A felony drug possession charge against a Detroit Lakes man was dismissed Friday in Becker County District Court.

Mark Patrick Leendertsen, 31, of 1257 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes was sentenced on July 17, 2008 to up to five years of supervised probation on two counts of felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime. He was sentenced with the understanding that if he was successfully discharged from probation, the charges against him would be dismissed.

An order of discharge from probation for Leendertsen was signed on June 21. The charges against him stemmed from two incidents on Dec. 17 and 18, 2007.

On Dec.17, 2007, Leendertsen allegedly called White Drug and pretended to be Dr. Larry Goldstein, ordering a prescription of 20 Vicodin tablets, a painkiller that Leendertsen allegedly filled and picked up the same day.

The next day, he allegedly attempted to do the same thing at the Kmart Pharmacy. Employees there grew suspicious and called Dr. Goldstein, who told them he hadn't authorized the prescription.

When Leendertsen went to Kmart to pick up the Vicodin, he allegedly saw a police officer waiting there and left. He came back the next day, asked for the drugs, and was told they weren't ready. He never came back for the prescription, according to court records.
