Duke may not have won “Dog of the Year” at the World Dog Show in California, but it was a dog-gone good night.

The canine mayor of Cormorant was hand-picked by show producers to compete in the show a couple of weeks ago, which drew in famous dogs and people from all over the country.

“He got me standing next to Paris Hilton, a free trip to California and shaking hands with George Lopez,” said Duke’s owner, David Rick. “What a great country.”

Duke proved a popular pet on the “green” carpet, as he happily posed with countless fans that night.

Duke’s owners say they have no idea where he placed in the voting, but he did get a chance to rub furry shoulders with famous dogs like RooTurbo, who was born with no legs. Space Aero experts created wheels for him to roll on, instead of walk.

He also met the bull dogs that surf, jet ski and skate board, as well as Peanut, the world’s ugliest dog who experts believe was set on fire.

The show aired on the CW network last week, during which time folks at the Cormorant Pub had a “viewing party”.

Although Duke did not take home the honors, Rick said he is still “his” winner, who helped the local Humane Society of the Lakes raise money.

“And you can’t beat that,” said Rick.
