FARGO -- Former Fargo radio personality and MSNBC talk show host Ed Schultz is considering a run for the Senate seat of Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., who won't seek re-election next year, MSNBC reported.
The cable news station reported that Schultz told the Huffington Post that "there is a lot to think about" after he was approached by North Dakota Democratic leaders about a possible run.
"The phone call from (North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party leader) Merle Boucher is certainly new territory for me," Schultz was quoted as saying.
MSNBC reported that Schultz said he was called Tuesday night by Dorgan and hours later by Boucher.
"I asked him very point-blank if this was an official ask," Schultz was quoted as saying, referring to Boucher. "He said, 'Yes it is'. I'm flattered. I'm honored."

Schultz, who lives in Detroit Lakes, Minn., but lived in Fargo for years, would have to leave his slot on MSNBC's evening lineup to run for Senate, the station reported.
"I feel good about my position," he was quoted as saying. "I feel good about who I am and what I advocate for. I'm a strong believer in building the middle class. And to put that in terms of the Senate race I'm just not there yet."
It was originally unclear whether Dorgan or Boucher asked Schultz to run. Boucher asked Schultz to run for the seat, which will be up for grabs in this fall's election.
