Donations from the Lake Park-Audubon school community, under the leadership of the school's National Honor Society, have fulfilled the Operation Gratitude wish of sending healthy snacks to troops serving abroad.

With the help of the Lake Park Auxiliary and private donations, the honor society was able to ship several boxes of coffee, snack crackers, beef jerky, granola bars, trail mix and assorted dried fruit bags to several troop members from the local area.

Mary Christensen, Lake Park, has helped facilitate the shipping of the goods for the past several years and said she knows how grateful the service members are when the gift boxes arrive.

“I know that when our son, Aaron, was serving abroad, he greatly appreciated the thoughts and generosity of his home community in remembering him and his troop in such a special way,” stated Christensen.

The transition from collecting candy to purchasing healthier snacks has been a positive change. Honor society members Emily Thompson, Lexi Leninger, Hailey Frohman and Morgan Kruger organized the fundraiser and the collection inventory that followed.
