This past Wednesday, July 1, the name of Detroit Lakes Adult Education was officially changed to Lakes Area Adult Education.
The name change better reflects the education consortium's membership and evolving mission. Adult Education at the state level is dropping “basic” from its identity, as the mission of the program has evolved to include the increasingly complex and rigorous skills adults need to participate in higher education, workforce, and community life.
Lakes Area Adult Education provides quality individualized assessment and learning opportunities to adult learners, such as individualized skills assessments, academic skills development, GED, Minnesota Standard Adult High School Diploma, English as a Second Language, US Citizenship test preparation, digital literacy skills, specific vocational and postsecondary readiness preparation, and more.
Detroit Lakes Public Schools remains the fiscal agent and central office for our services, but the Lakes Area is more inclusive of students and member school districts across the region. Consortium members include Ada-Borup Public Schools, Becker County Jail, Detroit Lakes Public Schools, Frazee-Vergas Public Schools, Lake Park-Audubon Public Schools, New York Mills Public Schools, Norman County East Public Schools, Pelican Rapids Public Schools, Perham-Dent Public Schools, Rothsay Public Schools, and Ulen-Hitterdal Public Schools.
