Michael Richter, Detroit Lakes, was among more than 1,135 St. Cloud State University students to graduate at the conclusion of spring semester 2020.
Richter earned a master's degree in social work from SCSU, which offers over 200 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and brings more than 13,000 students annually to its campus on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Vergas's Haarstick graduates at Normandale
Paul Dean Haarstick, Vergas, was among the more than 1,200 Normandale Community College graduates honored for their achievement during a virtual commencement ceremony held on Wednesday, May 27.
Haarstick earned an associate of science degree in accounting and graduated with high honors. Over 200 graduates submitted photos and were part of the Virtual Commencement Ceremony. A replay of the virtual ceremony can be viewed at normandale.edu/commencementstream.
Local students named to dean's list at UM-Twin Cities
The following local students have been named to the 2020 spring semester dean's list at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
Sierra Edvall, Frazee, a sophomore in the College of Science and Engineering;
- Jordan Egan, Detroit Lakes, a senior in the College of Liberal Arts;
- Mirella Grimm, Detroit Lakes, a junior in the College of Biological Sciences;
- Kyle Miller, Detroit Lakes, a sophomore in the College of Liberal Arts;
- Kate Neitzke, Frazee, a junior in the College of Biological Sciences;
- Benjamin Stearns, Detroit Lakes, a junior in the Carlson School of Management.
To qualify for the university dean's list, a student must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average for the semester.
Several Detroit Lakes students named to St. Cloud dean's list
St. Cloud State University has announced the names of more than 1,700 students whose academic achievement placed them on the 2020 spring semester dean's list.
Among those qualifying for the honor were Olivia Gravelle, Kendra Jenson, Alyssa Sickles and Makayla Zimmerman, all from Detroit Lakes.
To be eligible for the dean's list, students must have a grade point average for the semester of 3.75 or higher, on a 4.0 scale.
Detroit Lakes' Lindberg on dean's list at Mayville State
Jenna Lindberg, Detroit Lakes, was recently named to the dean's list for academic achievement during the spring 2020 semester at Mayville (N.D.) State University.
In order to be named to the dean's list, each student has attained a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and has successfully completed a minimum of 12 graded credit hours of regular academic credit from Mayville State.
Area students earn academic honors at Bemidji State
Several students from the lakes area were recently named to the dean's list and president's honor roll for academic achievement during spring semester 2020 at Bemidji State University.
Local students named to the president's honor roll include:

Mitchell Hall, Lake Park;
Lindsay Holmquist, Detroit Lakes;
William Pihlaja, Osage.
Those named to the dean's list include:
- Kayla Gordon, Detroit Lakes;
- Sonja Kolness, Detroit Lakes;
- Kailee Lefebvre, Audubon;
- Trevor Loberg, Lake Park;
- Chelsea Samuelson, Frazee;
- Aaron Schnathorst, Detroit Lakes.
To be eligible for the president's honor roll or dean's list, BSU students must be enrolled for at least 12 credits. Those on the president's honor roll are those who have earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the semester, while dean's list honorees must attain a GPA between 3.5-3.99.
A total of 421 BSU students earned spring 2020 president's list honors from the university, and an additional 737 students attained dean's list honors.
