Four local students named to SCSU dean's list

Four Detroit Lakes residents were among the more than 1,300 students whose academic achievement placed them on the 2020 fall semester dean's list at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn.

Olivia Gravelle, Sydney Gulon, Kendra Jenson and Makayla Zimmerman were all honored for maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) during the semester.

Three area students named to dean's list at Crookston

Students named to the fall semester 2020 dean's list at the University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) were announced recently by the Office of the Registrar.

Local students named to the dean's list include: Syd Bly, Waubun; Myla Lewis, Lake Park; and Karli Bryn Renney, Frazee.

To qualify for a place on the UMC dean's list, students must complete 12 or more letter-graded (A-F) credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average or higher (on a 4.0 scale).

Detroit Lakes' Lyngaas earns dean's list honors at UW-La Crosse

Molly Lyngaas, Detroit Lakes, was among those students at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse who were named to the dean's list for their academic achievements during fall semester 2020.

Lyngaas is majoring in exercise and sport science at UWLC, on the pre-professional track. Qualification for the university dean's list is limited to students who have attained outstanding academic achievement. To be eligible, students must have earned not less than a 3.5 semester grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and carried a minimum of 12 credits.

Area students earn academic honors at UND

The University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, recently announced its dean's list and president's roll of honor for fall semester 2020.

Students from the lakes area who were named to the UND president's roll of honor include: Sydney Brininger, Detroit Lakes; Brianne Huesman, Rochert; Trenten Johnson, Waubun; Makayla Melvin, Frazee; Logan Pazdernik, Waubun; and Abigail Schramel, Detroit Lakes;.

To qualify for the president's roll of honor, a student must have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.8 or higher (on a 4.0 scale). The student must also have earned a minimum of 30 semester hours and have completed a minimum of 12 hours at the close of the semester, eight of which must be for traditional letter grades.

Area students who earned dean's list honors include the following: Sydney Brininger, Detroit Lakes; Max Gunderson, Detroit Lakes; Morgan Mastrud, Detroit Lakes; Makayla Melvin, Frazee; Ellie Morgan, Detroit Lakes; Tate Nelmark Jr., Frazee; Andrew Neumann, Audubon; Logan Pazdernik, Waubun; Laura Prussia, Audubon; Taylor Prussia, Audubon; and Haley Warren, Ogema.

The UND dean’s list includes students whose grade point average are in the top 15 percent of the enrollment in each of the University's degree granting colleges and schools. A student must have completed no fewer than 12 semester hours of academic work for the semester, of which eight or more hours must be graded work rather than "satisfactory/unsatisfactory."

Detroit Lakes' Smith earns dean's list nod at University of Nebraska

Katherine Marie Smith of Detroit Lakes has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the fall semester of the 2020-21 academic year.

Smith was named to the dean's list for the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, where she is a senior majoring in graphic design. To qualify for this honor, students must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.7 (on a 4.0 scale) and complete a minimum number of graded semester hours. Nearly 6,800 students at UN-Lincoln were named to the dean's list for the fall semester.

Three local students earn academic honors at Mankato

Minnesota State University Mankato recently announced that three local students had earned academic honors for their achievements during fall semester 2020.

Anna Cihak and Emily Schiltz, both of Detroit Lakes, were named to the honor list, while Mesa Schultz, Frazee, was named to the high honor list.

Among MSU-Mankato's 3,861 students, a total of 1,130 qualified for the high honor list by achieving a 4.0 (straight "A") grade point average, while 2,731 students earned a GPA between 3.5-3.99 to qualify for the honor list.

To earn academic honors, MSUM undergraduate students must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours for the semester.

Detroit Lakes teen recognized by MN Connections Academy

Detroit Lakes' Kailey Kools was recently named one of Minnesota Connections Academy’s (MNCA) Students of the Month in recognition of her outstanding achievements and leadership in the virtual classroom.

Kools, a senior at the public online school, was nominated by her teacher, Mrs. Engen, in recognition of her hard work and determination to succeed in the virtual classroom. As a Student of the Month, Kailey will be presented with a certificate of achievement and be profiled in the Minnesota Connections Academy student newsletter and the school’s social media platforms.

Two local students named to dean's list at St. Benedict

Two local students have earned the distinction of being named to the dean's list for the 2020 fall semester at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn.

  • Trisha Gebhart, child of Pete and Bonnie Gebhart of Detroit Lakes. She is a sophomore nursing major at CSB.
  • Catherine Jaroszewski, child of Jim and Susan Jaroszewski of Frazee. She is a senior music major at CSB.

To be included in the CSB dean's list, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.80 and have completed 12 credits for which honor points (A, B, C, etc.) are awarded. Students included on the dean's list cannot have any “unsatisfactory” or “incomplete” grades for that semester.
