Chelsey Swenson of Detroit Lakes recently applied for a Live Your Dream award from Soroptimist International of the Red River Valley — and won $500.
Live Your Dream grants are given to women who are seeking undergraduate higher education, while supporting one or more dependents. Swenson is pursuing an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in liberal arts from Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Detroit Lakes. Her goal is to continue her education and earn a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
Those who would like to pursue a 2022 "Live Your Dream" grant should visit the Soroptimist Facebook page for information on how to apply; the application period for 2022 awards will open in July.
Mendoza named to SNHU president's list
William Mendoza, Frazee, was named to the Southern New Hampshire University president's list for his academic achievements during the winter 2021 term, which runs from January to May.
Full-time students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.7 and above are named to the president's list. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits during the term.
Area students earn academic honors at Crookston
The Office of the Registrar at the University of Minnesota Crookston recently released the names of several local residents who have earned academic honors for their achievements during spring semester 2021.
Myla Lewis, Lake Park, was among those students named to the spring semester 2021 chancellor's list, while the following students were named to the dean's list: Syd Bly, Waubun; Brianna Johnson, Detroit Lakes; Michelle Swyter, Frazee; and Peyton Syverson, Waubun.
All students must complete 12 or more letter-graded (A-F) credits to earn academic honors. To qualify for a place on the chancellor's list, students must also attain a 4.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the semester, while to earn a spot on the dean's list, students must attain a 3.66 GPA or higher.
Lake Park's Anderson named to dean's list at UW-Stout
Jacob Anderson, Lake Park, was among those students named to the University of Wisconsin-Stout dean's list for his academic achievements during the spring 2021 semester.
Anderson, a senior at UWS, is seeking a bachelor of science degree in plastics engineering. To qualify for this academic honor, he had to earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for the semester.
Two local students named to dean's list at Jamestown
The University of Jamestown (N.D.) recently named two local students to its dean's list for academic achievement during spring semester 2021.
Both Paige Oswald, Frazee, and Sydney Prussia, Audubon, met the required criteria of earning a grade point average of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale) for the semester.
Two local students graduate at Crookston
Two local students, Myla Lewis of Lake Park and Peyton Syverson of Waubun, were among those who graduated from the University of Minnesota Crookston at the conclusion of spring semester 2021.
Lewis graduated with distinction and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education, while Syverson received a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources.
