Four students from Detroit Lakes — Adeline Steile, Marly Przybilla, Sarah Kapphan and Jackson Hegg — have received academic scholarships from Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM).

  • Adeline, the daughter of Rich and Jody Steile, and Jackson, the daughter of Monessa and Justin Hegg, both graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. They each received a $500 Charles and Ellora Alliss Scholarship. This scholarship was founded by the family of Charles Alliss, General Superintendent of Factory Administration for all of 3M’s manufacturing, upon his death on September 11, 1958. This scholarship is intended for those pursuing a full-time education at MSUM. Since the first scholarships were given in 1962, more than $125 million has been granted to thousands of Minnesota students. Click here for more information.
  • Sarah, the daughter of Lauretta and Dan Kapphahn, also graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. She received a $1,000 Mary Alexander Brumby Scholarship. This scholarship was established for upperclassmen at MSUM studying Art History or an Art related field. Applicants must upload a copy of their current transcript along with an Art History paper (if seeking a BA in Art History) and a digital portfolio. Click here for more information.
  • Marly, the daughter of Steve and Susie Przybilla, graduated from Century High School in Bismarck, N.D. She received the Jesse Parsons Scholarship. This scholarship was established to financially assist upper-classmen at MSUM who have declared a major in a bioscience related field. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and write an essay describing their participation in any research or accomplishments in the area. Applicants must also attach a list of any awards, honors, or scholarships they have received. Click here for more information.
