Edwin J. "Ed" Levy, Jr., 73 of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, February 16, 2006, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
Edwin was born the son of Edwin J. and Hazel Levy, Sr., on March 3, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pa., where he grew up and completed his high school education.
In 1949, Ed enlisted in the United States Army. During his 22 years of active military service, he served in the U.S., Germany and Vietnam. In 1954, he met and married his first wife, Merceline Warren, in Germany. The couple had four children.
Following his 1971 military retirement, Ed became the manager of the Bismarck Tavern in Fargo. In 1985, he and his second wife, Clara Rognlien, retired to their lake home on Blanche Lake, Otter Tail County, where they enjoyed golfing, fishing, card playing, growing roses and the good company of neighbors.

Ed's physical difficulties from Agent Orange and a 1994 bacterial infection left him disabled for more than a decade. In July 2005, he became a resident of the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Fergus Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Levy; children, Edwin (Diane) Levy of White Earth, Sandra (David) Levy of White Earth, Michael (Denise) Levy of Waubun and Judith (Dan) Murray, also of Waubun; stepchildren, Kathleen Rognlien of Watertown, Minn., Michael (Dawn) Rognlien of Fargo and Mary (Michael) Loreno of Fergus Falls; 21 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; as well as numerous great grandchildren.
Preceding Ed in death were his parents; his first wife, Merceline; his grandson, Michael; and his step-grandson, Sherman.
A mass of Christian burial was set for 11:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Fergus Falls, with the Rev. Bob Kieffer and Sister Joyce Leibly officiating.
