Elsie M. Beckerleg, 81, of Akeley, Minn., died on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.

Elsie Marie Karl, the daughter of Louis, Sr. and Margaret (Pickar) Karl, was born on Nov. 8, 1924 at Marion, N.D. She moved with her family to Litchville, N.D., where she attended school. She helped on the family farm for a number of years. During World War II she moved to Bellingham, Wash., where she worked in the shipyards.

Elsie married Homer F. Beckerleg on Sept. 9, 1946 at Marion, N.D. They moved to Breckenridge, Minn., where their first child, Kathleen, was born. They lived in McIntosh for two years, then, in 1950, moved to Akeley, where Elsie has since resided. While in Akeley their children Terry, Susan, Jane, Timothy, Janet and Thomas were born. Elsie worked as a seasonal employee for the Badoura Nursery for several years. The majority of her life she was a homemaker. She enjoyed making quilts for her whole family, raising flowers in her garden, doing word puzzles, and she was an avid NASCAR fan. She always cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Our Lady of The Pines Catholic Church of Nevis/Akeley, where she had been active in the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Akeley VFW auxiliary group.

Elsie is survived by her children, Sue Jones of Paradise, Mont., Jane (Gary) Young of Frazee, Timothy (Linda) Beckerleg of Rochert, Janet (John) Beck of Hawley and Thomas Beckerleg of Akeley; 19 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Doris (Donald) Beckerleg of Park Rapids and Maxine (George) McFarren of Park Rapids; a brother, Louis (Judy) Karl, Jr. of Akeley; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Homer (2004); her children Kathy and Terry; brother, Rodney Karl; and her sister, Luella Schueler.

A mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, April 3, at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Nevis, Minn., with the Rev. Father Duane Pribula serving as celebrant. Active casketbearers were Timothy Beckerleg, Thomas Beckerleg, John Beck, Gary Youg, Alex Jones, and Jacob Beck. Honorary casketbearers were Elsie's grandchildren and great grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids and Nevis.
