Evelyn R. Palm, 73, of Rochert, died Monday, September 15, 2008 at her residence.
Evelyn R. Matejka was born to John and Mary (Honcik) Matejka on Aug. 22, 1935 in rural Hitterdal, where she grew up, graduating from Hitterdal High School. She moved to Detroit Lakes and went to work for First National Bank. On June 15, 1956 she married David C. Palm in Hawley. They made their home and raised their family in Rochert.
Evelyn later worked for People's State Bank in Frazee, and then for First National Bank and Norwest Bank in Detroit Lakes for the next 19 years, retiring in 2000. Evelyn was very active at Bakke Lutheran Church, serving with both the Ladies Aid and circles. She loved to travel, dance, play cards, snowmobiling, and camping. She also loved to cook and bake. Some of her favorite things were cooking for the deer camp, and hosting neighborhood picnics.
Evelyn was always willing to help others. Many of the neighborhood kids and friends of her children considered her as a second mother. Most of all she loved the time spent with her family.

Surviving Evelyn are her husband, David; three sons, Charles (Elizabeth) Palm of Moorhead, Bruce (Judy) Palm of Rochert and Mark (Carolynn) Palm of Lake Park; two daughters, LeAnn (Darrell) Utke of West Fargo and Susan (Tim) Roesler Lake Park; daughter-in-law, Holly Palm of Warroad, Minn.; mother-in-law, Hazel Palm of Detroit Lakes; 11 grandchildren; one great grandson; one brother, Ray Matejka of Thermopolis, Wyo.; two sisters, Sylvia (Frank) Weaver of Moorhead and Jo Kluck of Barnesville; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; son Wayne Palm; brothers, Emil and Sonny Matejka; and son-in-law; John Lubbers.
There will be visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19 at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, continuing for one hour prior to Saturday's services at the church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 at Bakke Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Gregory S. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Bakke Lutheran Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes.
