FARGO – Police have arrested a man in connection with an early Monday morning hammer assault on another man.
Fargo Police Lt. Joel Vettel said Clifford Edward Monteith, 24, Fargo, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault for his part in a fight involving a hammer.
He’s accused of hitting the victim in the head with the weapon after a verbal and physical altercation.
Police were called about 3:15 yesterday morning to the 200 block of 23rd Street South and discovered the adult male victim outside, with a head injury.
His girlfriend told police she’d heard his cries for help and saw another man walking away from the area holding a hammer. She had not seen whether the man had actually been attacked.

The man could not give police any information about what had happened to cause him to be hurt.
He was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
