House a total loss after fire in Vergas

Vergas, MN — The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office was called out to 49385 368th Ave for a report of a house fire at at 4:35 p.m. on Sunday.

Deputies say a man spotted the fire from a boat on Rose Lake.

56-year-old Janine Trappe and 83-year-old Olive Hanson live in the house, but were not home at the time. However, a cat did die as a result of the fire.

Frazee, Perham, Vergas, and Detroit Lakes fire responded to the scene.

The fire was extinguished, but the house is likely a total loss.

Red Cross was contacted for services for the dsiplaced parties.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
