People placed in hotels after apartment fire in Detroit Lakes

An apartment fire caused dozens of people to be evacuated early Saturday morning.

Around 3:00 a.m. fire crews in Detroit Lakes responded to a fire at the Mountain View Estates, an apartment complex located on Barbara Avenue, near the middle school. Crews knocked out the fire in about an hour.

The Detroit Lakes Fire Department said that when firefighters arrived, they found a kitchen fire in one unit, causing the building's 53 other units to be evacuated. The unit on fire was completely destroyed.

No one was injured, but one child was taken to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The majority of the residents were back inside the building later that day, but the Red Cross had set up some residents in hotel rooms temporarily.
