Sarah Boyle, MFG's lone level 7 competitor, put up a stellar performance, scoring a 36.325 all-around to take first in her age division at the Fargo Classic at American Gold Gym in Fargo Jan. 28.

Boyle scored 9.15 on bars, good for first place on that event. She notched an 8.9 on beam for second and 9.25 on vault for third. She also finished with a fourth on floor, scoring 9.025.

"Sarah came out of her shell at the Fargo Classic for her best meet so far this year," said Flyers head coach JJ (Cullom) Bayer. "She had over a 9.0 on three out of the four events. Her second place 8.9 beam score could have easily scored over a 9.0 and won beam."

In level 6 action, MFG had gymnasts in all three age divisions. In the 7-10 age group, Mathia Olds put up her best performances on vault with a 7.7 and floor with a 7.35. She scored 6.65 on bars and 6.3 on beam.

Maddie Rue's top two numbers were 7.85 on floor and 7.6 on vault. She rounded out her day with 7.15 on beam and 6.55 on bars.

Bayer said of the level 6 competition, "It was nice to have the kids' friends and family show up to support the girls at our closest meet of the year. Everyone is getting more comfortable with their new routines and showed improvement at this meet. All the girls have been working hard in the gym and it's starting to show."

The level 6 and 7 gymnasts competed previously at the Peppermint Twist in Champlin in December and the Winter Challenge in St. Paul in January.

The Winter Challenge was a bit different for the girls and the parents, because it was run in the capital cup format. That meant the girls would warm up an event in one gym and then go to the competition gym and compete in the same event right away.

"The girls all coped really well and competed their best," Bayer said. "We all had lots of fun."

The MFG level 4's competed this season at the Snowflake Flip in Bemidji.

Hayley Kapusta put up her best scores on vault with an 8.7 and 8.0 on floor. Madalyn Schiller had her best performances on vault and floor, scoring 8.4 and 8.15 respectively.
