The third-ranked Barnesville Trojans took care of business Friday night in Frazee, beating the host Lady Hornets by the score of 46-17.

The Lady Hornets came out with a game plan to slow the game down and run a time-consuming offense, which would limit the Trojans' possessions. At half-time, the score was 21-9 Barnesville.

"I thought our kids did a great job of slowing the game down and handling their pressure overall in the first half," said Frazee head coach Tim Swenson. "We gave up a couple of layups off turnovers, and missed a couple front ends of bonus free throws, or we felt it could have been about a 17-15 game."

To start the second half, the Trojans came out in a 2-3 zone, and the Lady Hornets were prepared to hold the ball at the half court line for minutes and shorten the game even more.

But Barnesville came out of the zone in less than a minute, as they wanted to pick up the tempo.

"We were prepared to take about eight minutes off the clock before we did anything, if they would have stayed in the zone," Swenson added. "You could see they hate playing that slow (type) of a game."

The Trojans did put away the game in the second half, as they started to hit some shots and they were strong on the offensive glass, but the Lady Hornets should be proud, as they made them work for the win.

"People need to know they (the Trojans) are one of only five teams in the state that are still unbeaten; I am very proud of our kids 'effort," the Frazee coach added.

Courtney Kallis had seven rebounds, while Jessica King had five points and four rebounds. Barnesville was led by Kelsey Jacobson, who had 14 points, while Christine Moe chipped in 12 points.

'Jackets take battle of the bees

In the battle of the bees on Monday night in Perham, the Yellowjackets came out on top in a close contest over the visiting Lady Hornets, 40-35.

The first half was tight all the way, with the Lady Hornets making a defensive stop at the end of the half to take a narrow 21-20 lead into the locker room.

"I thought both teams really played hard all night, and Perham just made a couple more plays to get the job done in the second half," Swenson said.

King paced the Lady Hornets in the first half, scoring all her eight points by halftime.

The second half started with the Yellowjackets coming out and hitting some shots early, to take the lead that they would hold onto the rest of the game.

Schumacher came up big for them in the second half, hitting three mid range jumpers on three consecutive possessions to give them the lead forgood.

"We just didn't cover up the shooter and when she hit the first one, you could see the confidence grow," Swenson stated.

Schumacher scored all eight of her points in the second half, which included the two free throws that iced the game with 5.5 seconds left,to put Perham up five points.

"I thought (Dani) Stoll played a nice overall game, as she was strong defensively with her presence in the paint as well as on the boards," Swenson said.

Frazee was led by Kallis, who had 11 points to go along with six rebounds. Tara Sailer had a nice game, scoring nine points with four assists.

"I thought freshmen Chelsea Nordquist (six rebounds and five assists) and Abby Berven (five points and four rebounds) also had nice games for the Lady Hornets," Swenson said.
