It’s all a learning curve and changes are already being made to the Frazee Latch Key program.

Community Education Director Kitti Kivi-Lex said that she has had a number of parents wanting to utilize the Latch Key program but not necessarily the entire week. Cost was $40 a week.
So Kivi-Lex got approval to charge parents hourly instead of weekly.
“Because parents were not able to commit to a full week,” she said.
So instead, parents will be charged $2.75 an hour for whatever days their children will be in Latch Key. She said that parents were hesitant to pay for an entire week because kids have dance or church after school some nights.
The Latch Key program is for elementary-aged kids after school from 3 to 6 p.m. Crafts, games and activities are offered for the kids, as well as a snack and milk.
Money from the program pays for the staff and supplies, with no money coming from the school district budget.
A registration packet can be picked at the Elementary School Office.
“We’d rather serve kids and get it going,” Kivi-Lex said of changing the pricing system, adding that the program will grow in time.
