Gerald D. "Jerry" Marquardt, 68, of Vergas, died on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes.
Gerald Dean Marquardt was born to Harry and Hilda (Wahl) Marquardt on May 9, 1937 in Pelican Rapids. He was raised near Vergas, where he attended a country school and helped on the family farm. Jerry married Gail Sprouls on Nov. 3, 1956 at St. Paul's Lutheran Loon Lake Church. He worked at Franklin Fence and Paul's Insulation in Vergas.
Jerry loved woodworking, making shelves, cabinets and Christmas decorations. He enjoyed the outdoors, and simply being in the woods. When he was younger, Jerry also spent time fishing and hunting.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Gail Marquardt of Vergas; three sons, Jody (Sherry) Marquardt of Vergas, Jeff Marquardt of Denver, Colo., and Joel Marquardt of Detroit Lakes; a brother, Howard (Geneva) Marquardt of Florida; a sister, Idella (James) Svendsgaard of Fergus Falls; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jerry's parents, Harry and Hilda Marquardt, preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Furey Funeral Home, Vergas. Visitation will also continue for one hour prior to the start of Thursday's services at the church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Vergas, with the Rev. Michael Wolters officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul's Loon Lake Cemetery, Vergas.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furey Funeral Home, Vergas.
