The public is invited to attend the White Earth Nation Inauguration at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at the Shooting Star Casino Event Center in Mahnomen.

Michael A. Fairbanks will be sworn in as chairman of the White Earth Nation, the largest tribe in Minnesota. Fairbanks defeated Brent Gish, 1,352 votes to 679, in a special general election Aug. 6.

The election was held to fill the unexpired four-year term of former Chairman Terry Tibbetts who was elected in 2016 and died in March after a lengthy illness.
