White Earth Reservation Public Transit was awarded Federal Transit Administration funds from the CARES Act for Public Transportation on Indian Reservations. White Earth Reservation successfully completed the grant and will receive $511, 558 for their reservation-wide and surrounding area transit services, according to a White Earth news release.
Funds from the FTA and CARES Act will be used for operating costs to respond to and recover from the COVID-19 public health emergency; no local match is required. The CARES Act established the Coronavirus Relief Fund and appropriated $150 billion into the fund. Under the CARES Act, monies can be used for specific state and local governments, including tribal governments.
White Earth Public Transit offers safe, reliable and affordable transportation services to programs and the people of White Earth Reservation and the surrounding area. In 2017, WEPT was awarded Transit System of the Year.
