Filing opens 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, for county, federal and state offices that will be on the state general election ballot Nov. 3.
That includes three Becker County Board seats and three seats on the Becker Soil and Water Conservation District.
Minnesota Senate and House seats for this area will also be on the ballot.
Candidate filing closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 2.

“People can file for office remotely because of the coronavirus,” Minnesota Secretary Steve Simon said Friday in a telephone interview. “It’s a one-time deal, just for 2020,” he added. “Actually, we already had this in place for candidates who were going to be out of town for the entire filing period. We just extended it to everyone this year.”
On the ballot will be Becker County Board seats held by:
- John Okeson in District 3, which includes the townships of Burlington, Erie, Holmesville and Lakeview, and the City of Frazee.
- Don Skarie in District 4, which includes Audubon Township, precincts 1 and 2 in Detroit Township, Richwood Township, the City of Audubon, and Ward 1 in Detroit Lakes.
- Barry Nelson in District 5, which includes the townships of Atlanta, Callaway, Cormorant, Cuba, Hamden, Lake Eunice, Lake Park, Maple Grove, Riceville, Spring Creek, Walworth, and White Earth, and the cities of Callaway, Lake Park and Ogema.
All are four-year terms. Filing fee is $50 at the county level.
Seats on the board of the Becker Soil and Water Conservation District will also be on the ballot. The filing fee is $20.
The Minnesota Senate seats held by Kent Eken of Twin Valley (District 4) and Paul Utke of Park Rapids (District 2) will be on the ballot.
As will the Minnesota House seats held by Paul Marquart of Dilworth (District 4B) and Steve Green of Fosston (District 2B). Filing fee for the state Legislature is $100.
Sixteen district judges in the Seventh Judicial District will be on the ballot, including Judge Jay Carlson in Detroit Lakes and Judge Kevin Miller (formerly of the Becker County Attorney’s Office) in Fergus Falls. The filing fee for judges is $300.
