GRAND FORKS -- A Grand Forks man accused of huffing butane and puncturing his stepfather's arm with the bit end of a portable Craftsman drill pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of inhaling vapors and simple assault.
Christopher Storey, 20, was given credit for having served 50 days behind bars, released from Grand Forks County jail Wednesday and ordered to do a year of unsupervised probation. Storey initially faced a count of aggravated assault, a felony, but that charge was reduced to simple assault, a misdemeanor.
On Dec. 8, Storey told an officer who was dispatched to his home that he'd been huffing butane, according to an affidavit of probable cause. The affidavit also says Storey had thrown a phone at his 37-year-old stepdad and, with the drill, struck him on the inside of the left arm.
Authorities said the drill was not running when it struck Storey's stepdad, who was not seriously injured.
