James A. Mulcahy, 54, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, April 16, 2006 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes.

James Allan Mulcahy was born to Everett and Arlene (Krauth) Mulcahy on March 13, 1952 in Moorhead. He spent his early years in Barnesville, Minn., and moved with his family to Rollag in 1959. They moved to Audubon in 1961. Jim graduated from Audubon High School in 1970. He married Shelley Haukedahl on June 13, 1970 in Lake Park. They lived in Audubon, where he was the service manager for Haukedahl Trucking. Because of illness, he retired and moved to Soaring Eagle Ranch on Sept. 6, 1988. He moved to Detroit Lakes in 1991 and had been at St. Mary's Nursing Center since Dec. 28, 2000.

Jim loved his family and his horses. He was a member of Pelican Rapids Saddle Club, and also participated in softball, bowling, deer hunting and moose hunting.

Jim is survived by one daughter, Sheila, of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Jamie Mulcahy of Los Angeles, Calif., and Joel Mulcahy of St. Cloud; his parents, Arlene and Everett "Shine" Mulcahy of Detroit Lakes; six sisters, Susan (Robin) Hoppert, Linda (Mark) Haverkamp and Patty (Dean) Eilertson, all of Detroit Lakes, Judy (Russ) Brekken and Mary (Kevin) Laney, both of Audubon, and Lori (Mike) Danner, also of Detroit Lakes; three brothers, Keith (Lynette) Mulcahy of Audubon, Larry (Janet) Mulcahy of Killeen, Texas, and Thomas (Debbie) Mulcahy of Ontario, Calif.; as well as five grandchildren.

Friends may call between 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 20 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes; there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the start of services Friday.

A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 21 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.

The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is serving the family.
