Charges are pending against a 17-year-old joyrider whom police believe stole a van and ran it into a house in Crookston in the early morning hours Sunday, according to the Crookston Police Department.

Police responded to reports that a vehicle had collided with a house in Crookston at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the police department.

A 2008 Honda Odyssey with Manitoba license plates had crashed into a house on West Seventh Street and sustained severe damage to its front end, the release says. Police later learned the van had been stolen from the AmericInn Lodge and Suites parking lot in Crookston, according to the release.

The van's driver and passengers had fled the scene, the release said, but officers managed to make contact with the 17-year-old suspect. The release does not identify the suspect by name.

Police say charges are pending against the 17-year-old Crookston boy, whom police suspect of underage drinking in addition to stealing the vehicle, careless driving and fleeing the accident scene.
