The Region IV Golden Gloves boxing tournament was held in Wadena, as Lakes Area Boxing's Shane Kern finished in second place and winning the "Fightiest Fighter Award."

Kern defeated Levi Brock of Brainerd in the semifinals and lost a hard-fought battle to Tyler Hultin in the finals.

"It was the fight of the night," said LAB trainer Chris Holt. "Shane proved to the judges and officials that he came to fight by winning the 'Fightiest Fighter Award,' which is an award given to the person who shows the most charisma, heart and dedication to want to win."

The two other awards were given to Tyler Hultin of Fergus Falls as the Best Boxer, and T.J. Stewart of Wadena, who won the Sportsmanship Award.

The Region IV champions advance to the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves tournament at the Grand Casino in Hinckley to compete against region champions from Minneapolis, St. Paul, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.
