King crowned at Rotary Guest Day

In a random drawing of members, a name picked out of a hat and Joe Merseth was named "King for a Day." His tablemates became his Court, and they were treated to crowns, Lei's wine, flowers and balloons.

Also at the meeting, Steve Schmit shared "What was there about Noon Rotary that made me want to join?" He said the principles that Rotarians have and the way the club reaches out to help others really impressed him. He said he was proud of be a part of this group.

Jim C. Sinclair talked about the things that Rotary sponsors and takes part in that support the youth in the community. He said the science fair donation, the 4 Way Test Essay contest, the Boy Scout Troops, scholarship awards program, support of TeachHaiti, Interact Club, and the International Exchange Program are just a few.

Paul Weber talked about where Rotary monies go including $15,000 in scholarships to Detroit Lakes, Frazee and Lake Park-Audubon students. They also support Rotary Soccer Park, Model UN (MUNA) in Winnipeg and Rotary Youth Leadership Camp (RYLA) in Crookston, scholarships through TeachHaiti and Jamaica Eye Project headed by Dr. Larry Morrison.

George Van Dam spoke about the 4 Way Test, which was started 56 years ago by Herbert J Taylor. The Four Way Test is still front and center in Rotary circles, with most club members reciting it before meetings and applying it to personal and professional challenges.

The 4 Way Test consists of four questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
