Is it a case of being hot at the right time or just being good?
Detroit Lakes head boys' golf coach Bob Gorden believes it's the latter when describing his team.
The Lakers put together their best effort of the season Saturday in Perham, scoring an all-time low DLHS mark with a three-under par (counting the team's top four scores) 289 to win the meet held on the Perham Lakeside links.

"Some people have come up to me and said how hot our team is. I just think we are a good golf team," Gorden said. "The guys came into the spring focused on getting better after a good off-season, and they are working hard at it."
For the first time this season, DL's top four scores broke 80, led by Josh Herzog and Ben Bergquist, who both carded a two-under par 71. Mox Gunderson came in at even par 73, while Mike Brodsho capped the best-ever score for a DL team with a 74.
Even Adam Thielen and Ryan Kuehne broke 80 at 78 and 77, respectively, and those scores didn't even count on the record-breaking team mark.
"It's nice having scores under 80 as our fifth and sixth scores because that shows our depth as a team," Gorden said.
Herzog's day didn't start off like he was going to finish as a two-under par golfer, hitting a double-bogey on his first hole of the day. But the sophomore recovered nicely, stroking a double-eagle on hole nine.
Bergquist also had a flurry of a finish after he was sitting at two-over with four holes to play, but finish two-under for the day.
"We've just had a good start to the season, starting with our competitive showing at the University of Minnesota tournament," Gorden said. "These guys just love the game of golf and are focusing on getting better for the season."
The Lakers were in Brainerd Wednesday for a meet against the majority of their section opponents and will be in Grand Rapids for a two-day tournament Friday and Saturday.
