Several local residents were among the 3,445 students at Minnesota State University Mankato to be named to the honors lists for academic achievement at the end of fall semester 2019.
Emily Schiltz, Detroit Lakes; Cassidy Nelson, Frazee; and Whitney Isaacson, Lake Park, were all named to the honors list for earning a grade point average between 3.5-3.99 (on a 4.0 scale).
Mesa Schultz, Frazee, was named to the high honors list for achieving a 4.0 ("straight A") average.
To qualify for academic honors, undergraduate students must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours during the semester.
Detroit Lakes' Johnson graduates from Bethel University
AddieKay Johnson, Detroit Lakes, graduated from Bethel University in St. Paul, Minn., at the end of the fall 2019 semester.

Johnson, who is the daughter of Detroit Lakes residents Dan and Michelle Johnson, earned a degree in elementary education, grades K-6.
Two area students named to dean's list at St. Benedict
Two local students have earned the distinction of being named to the dean's list for the 2019 fall semester at the College of Saint Benedict (CSB) in St. Joseph, Minn.
- Catherine Jaroszewski, daughter of Jim and Susan Jaroszewski, Frazee, is a sophomore music major at CSB.
- Sarah Larson, daughter of Jon and Julie Larson, Detroit Lakes, is a senior philosophy major at CSB.
To be included in the dean's list, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.80 and have completed 12 credits for which honor points (A, B, C, etc.) are awarded. Students included on the dean's list cannot have any “unsatisfactory” or “incomplete” grades for that semester.
Two local students graduate from UW-Madison
Christian Tigges, Detroit Lakes, and Evan Blanchard, Vergas, were among the more than 1,770 students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to earn their degrees at the end of the fall 2019 semester.
Tigges graduated from the College of Engineering with a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering.
Blanchard graduated from the College of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree in materials science and engineering.
Winter commencement ceremonies were held Dec. 15 at the Kohl Center on the university campus.
