Becker County crime and fire report: June 13-15

Scammer sells local trailer home, son pulls gun on mother, lost puppy reported and other reports from the Detroit Lakes Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Office

Monday, June 13

  • 12:20 p.m., Resident on Elmwood Drive, Detroit Lakes, said she had purchased a camper that is located on Shell Lake for $30,000. However, she recently learned the Floridian who sold the camper to her did not own it.
  • 8:13 a.m., Autistic toddler was found by a security officer near Crane Road, Ogema. No parents were near the child. Later, it was learned the child likely climbed out of a bedroom window.
  • 9:20 a.m., A man was outside and naked along Bear Clan Drive, Ogema. The man was reportedly on meth. After being cleared at a hospital, the man was taken to jail for indecent exposure.
  • 3:10 p.m., Two prescriptions for depression were stolen out of an unlocked vehicle that was parked along Willow Street, Detroit Lakes.
  • 4:40 p.m., Fuel was reportedly taken out of a fuel barrel located along County Highway 21, Waubun. The tank was not hooked up to the residence.
  • 6:09 p.m., Van was broken into along Pickerel Lake Road and a backpack was stolen. Inside the backpack were a laptop, charging cords and other cables.
  • 6:36 p.m., A 55-year-old man threatened his mother with a gun on 580th Avenue, Menahga. He was arrested.

Tuesday, June 14

  • 10:20 a.m., Verbal threats were made at the counter of the Becker County Auditor-Treasurer’s office on Lake Avenue, Detroit Lakes. Why the man was upset was not in the report, but it was noted the man suffers from cognitive issues and the officers spoke to his wife about his behavior.
  • 6:42 p.m., A boat on Detroit Lake came so close to a dock that it left red paint marks on a docked boat. Officers were unable to locate the boat.

Wednesday, June 15

  • 8:40 a.m., A Labrador puppy was reported missing along Millview Lane, Detroit Lakes. The female puppy is named Molly and has a shaved belly, as she was recently spayed. The caller was advised to call area shelters.
  • 3:44 p.m., A child was driving a golf cart on a sidewalk along Garnet Boulevard, Detroit Lakes. The officer informed the child he was breaking many rules, from driving a motorized vehicle on a sidewalk to operating one without a license. The child apologized and said he would return the golf cart home immediately.
  • 7:16 p.m., Electrical transformer was popping, sparking and smoking along Melissa Drive, Detroit Lakes. The City of Detroit Lakes utilities crew were notified. There was no active fire.
