Becker County crime and fire report: May 19-22

Officer pushes car out of busy intersection, warnings given to multiple boaters, dirt bikes and ATVs tear up a hill on gated property, and other recent reports from the Detroit Lakes Police Department and Becker County Sheriff's Office

Thursday, May 19

9:23 a.m., Felony theft at a construction site along Woodland Lane, Detroit Lakes. Estimated amount of construction supplies stolen were stated to be about $4,000.
11:51 a.m., Officers provided a business along Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, with an ordinance violation letter having to do with a lodging tax violation.
12:37 p.m., Person was sleeping in a smoking hut on Washington Avenue, Detroit Lakes. Person was told to leave, and they did.
1:13 p.m., Overdose reported on Laura Avenue, Detroit Lakes. Four shots of Narcan were administered. Individual brought to hospital.
1:32 p.m., Tannerite explosions reported along Stilke Lake Road, Frazee. Officer reminded those lighting the legal explosive to do so in a safe manner.

Friday, May 20

8:16 a.m., Person caught dumping large bags of garbage in an alley along Elizabeth Street, Detroit Lakes. The individual was told to clean up the mess or they would receive a citation. Garbage was disposed of properly.
10:26 p.m., Caller thought someone was sleeping in Long Lake Park, Detroit Lakes. Person was lying on a bench watching a movie on a mobile device. Officer informed the person of park hours.
11:50 p.m., Vehicle collided with a bear near mile marker 40 on Highway 10. No injuries were reported and the individual driving the vehicle took possession of the bear.
8 p.m., Large fire reported at a residence along County Highway 26, Ponsford. Property owner was conducting a controlled burn, but was told to first check with the Department of Natural Resources next time.

Saturday, May 21

1:04 a.m., Woman was being disorderly at a bar along Highway 10, Detroit Lakes. The woman was arrested.
2:55 p.m., Vehicle stopped running at a busy intersection near the Detroit Lakes Airport. Officer pushed the vehicle out of traffic and assisted the motorist in contacting a tow truck.

Sunday, May 22

1:07 a.m., Vandalism reported along 290th Avenue, Detroit Lakes. A dark truck reportedly arrived at the residence and threw rocks at the house and broke a window.
2:46 a.m., Canoe was reported stolen from a residence along 270th Avenue, Ogema.
6:25 a.m., Boater on Lake Sallie in Detroit Lakes was informed they must display a life jacket.
1:38 p.m., Boater on Cormorant Lake, Lake Park, was informed they needed to display a life jacket and have a fire extinguisher on board.
2:09 p.m., Boat drifted away on Big Cormorant Lake, Lake Park. The 1991 Larson was located and the owner found.
2:32 p.m., Boater on Big Cormorant, Lake Park, was warned for expired registration.
3:25 p.m., Boater on Bad Medicine Lake, Ponsford, was informed that a life jacket needed to be on board and the horn of the boat in working order.
3:29 p.m., Boater on Middle Cormorant Lake, Lake Park, was warned for not having correct registration on boat.
4:10 p.m., Boater on Middle Cormorant Lake, Lake Park, was given a verbal warning for not having a working horn.
4:36 p.m., Grass fire along County Highway 37, Detroit Lakes was reported south of Shell Lake. Caller noted the fire was smoldering and worried it would reignite.
6:49 p.m., Caller stated ATVs and dirt bikes tore up a hill on a gated property. Caller stated no trespassing signs would be posted.
8:07 p.m., Downed power line caused a grass fire along Maple Lane, Detroit Lakes. Fire departments responded to the call.
11:13 p.m., Caller stated there was suspicious activity at Eagle Lake Park in Frazee. Officer found several people at the park. They were informed the park was closed and the people said they would leave shortly.
