DETROIT LAKES — Three women are accused of entering a home in Detroit Lakes and assaulting a woman who was home with her three children.

Julia Ann Hairy Byrd, 28, of Detroit Lakes; Debra Michelle Marie Humphrey, 29, of Detroit Lakes, and Destiny Nicole Weaver, 23, of rural Waubun are all charged in Becker County District Court with two counts of felony first-degree burglary. Weaver also faces two gross misdemeanor DWI charges.

According to court records, on the evening of April 25, Detroit Lakes police officers were dispatched to a residence in Apex Court, Detroit Lakes, for a 911 call about a disturbance. The caller said someone was being chased around by a vehicle in her neighborhood.

While officers were en route, the caller said the suspects left in a blue PT Cruiser, but got stuck at the end of the road.

Once they arrived, officers found three women walking on the roadway, one holding a small child. One officer stopped to speak with the women and two others continued to the residence, where they found an upset woman who said "they" came into her house and all three women started punching her. The woman said they then tried to run her over several times after she went outside to get them to leave, and that a neighbor had partial video of the incident.

The woman said her three young kids were home at the time, and a man who was also there said he just tried to get the kids out of harm’s way during the assault. He said he is related to one of the three attackers, all of whom were known to the residents.

The woman said that Hairy Byrd entered first, followed by the other two, and that she started to punch her and grab her hair while the other two held her down, before joining in the assault. After the assault ended, everyone went outside and the victim said she was calling the cops. The three women were in the vehicle, with Weaver driving, and she allegedly tried to run the woman over: A witness saw the PT Cruiser reverse at the woman, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, according to the criminal complaint. Hairy Byrd told officers the PT Cruiser was Weaver’s and that her 14-month-old son was buckled up in the vehicle. Humphrey acknowledged Weaver was driving. Weaver tested .13 for blood alcohol content in a breath test administered at the jail. The legal limit for operating a vehicle is .08.

Officers arrested all three women, made childcare arrangements for Hairy Byrd’s child, and transported them to the Becker County Jail.

On April 27, cash bail for Hairy Byrd was set at $2,000 or bond at $20,000, under standard conditions of release, or $40,000 bond with no conditions. She remained in jail as of Thursday. A settlement conference is set for July 6 and if no plea agreement is reached, a jury trial will start on July 20.
