Crime and fire report: May 12 - May 15

Two water rescues were needed on Sunday, downed power lines from severe weather caused multiple fires, and multiple camper burglaries were reported in Detroit Lakes.

Thursday, May 12

7:59 a.m., Male was released from the Becker County Jail along Stony Road, Detroit Lakes, and without authorization took off on a bike that the jail offers to those approved for work release.

9:47 p.m., Safe was reportedly broken into at a residence along U.S. Highway 10, Lake Park. The break-in took place between November 2021 and May 12, 2022.

10:23 a.m., Door was kicked in at a residence on Crane Road, Ogema.

11:38 p.m., Caller reported someone took prescription medications while they were sleeping at a residence on Lake Avenue, Detroit Lakes.

12:40 p.m., Male attempted to take a package from the front yard of a residence on Andrews Avenue, Detroit Lakes. When the homeowner yelled at the man, he dropped the package and took off.

12:39 p.m., Female in black was reportedly in someone’s back yard along Lynx Lane, Ogema. Officers were unable to locate.

3:39 p.m., Woman residing on 5th Street SE, Frazee, reported a fraudulent account had been opened at a bank. The caller closed the account and reached out to the credit bureau.

4:20 p.m., A juvenile male was shooting windows with a BB gun on Marten Drive, Ogema. Officers spoke with parties involved.

6:51 p.m., Male residing along County Highway 29, Detroit Lakes, reported two people threatened to cause him harm, as they believed he stole a dirt bike from them. Caller was directed to contact 9-1-1 if the parties show up at his residence.

8:10 p.m., Two people kicked in a door on Dakota Street, Callaway, and took a dog. The dog was returned a short time later.

8:23 p.m., Power line made contact with a tree along State Highway 87, Menagha, and the tree caught on fire.

8:48 p.m., A pine tree started on fire when it made contact with a power pole along County Highway 22, Detroit Lakes.

Friday, May 13

9:13, a.m., Bank fraud reported in Audubon. The caller’s bank was notified.

2:03 p.m., Multiple campers were burglarized at a lake lot in Detroit Lakes.

2:14 p.m., Drug related activity in Becker County.

2:54 p.m., Theft. An 8-by-10-foot trailer with 2-foot sides was stolen from a Detroit Lakes property.

6:36 p.m., On Highway 34, a Subaru was swerving in the roadway. A 51-year-old Richville woman was arrested for possible DWI.

5:14 p.m., A motorcyclist was reportedly having difficulty balancing their bike in Frazee. A 54-year-old Perham man was arrested for possible DWI.

7:23 p.m., A grass fire was reported in Menahga. Power lines were also reported down after being contacted by a downed-tree. The fire was extinguished after about an hour.

9:25 p.m., Possible breaking-and-entering at the old school on Lake Street, Lake Park. Boards were pried off the building's exterior and windows were smashed.

Saturday, May 14

3:30 a.m., Motor vehicle theft. A gray, 2015 Chevrolet Malibu was reported stolen in Detroit Lakes.

11:13 a.m., In rural Detroit Lakes, a caller reported a tree fell on their husband in the front yard. Air rescue was dispatched to the scene. A 64-year-old Detroit Lakes man was transported to a nearby medical clinic with unknown injuries.

1:05 p.m., A woman reported being verbally abused by a neighbor while walking her dog in Detroit Lakes. She was advised of harassment-restraining-order procedures.

5:41 p.m., A female party was reported injured in a physical assault occurring in Audubon. Medical treatment was declined. The case is under investigation.

5:58 p.m., Possible drugs were found in a Detroit Lakes parking lot.

7:35 p.m., A camper was reported as on fire in Rochert. No injuries were reported. The incident is under investigation by the state Fire Marshal's office.

10:43 p.m., Possible overdose in Ogema. A 61-year-old White Earth woman was reportedly breathing and unresponsive. The woman eventually regained consciousness and refused additional medical treatment.

Sunday, May 15

1:26 a.m., Shots fired near McHugh Road in Detroit Lakes. An officer spoke to a group of adults who admitted to firing a weapon in a safe direction. The firearm was stored.

10:56 a.m., A caller reported someone pulled a firearm on them while at a gas pump in Detroit Lakes. The incident is under investigation.

12:34 p.m., Suicide related. A 20-year-old Detroit Lakes man was threatening self-harm with a knife. The man was transported to a nearby medical clinic for evaluation.

2:38 p.m., Near County Road 19, Detroit Lakes, two juvenile parties were taken out into a lake by a strong current. Family members rescued the individuals on kayaks.

8:55 p.m., Near Detroit Lakes, a boat capsized and two individuals were reportedly in the water. The parties were rescued by the Minnesota DNR and brought to shore.

10:13 p.m., A juvenile reported being assaulted in Audubon, resulting in minor injuries. Medical attention was declined. The case is under investigation.
