Crime and fire report: Multiple items stolen from unlocked cars at Prairie Wind apartments in Detroit Lakes

On Wednesday morning, multiple car owners reported items were stolen from their unlocked vehicles near the apartment building. Items included: a new bow, multiple wallets and other small items.

Monday, Sept. 26

1:45 a.m., near Long Bridge Road, Detroit Lakes, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

8:44 a.m., near County Road 6, Lake Park, various items stolen from a residence. Under investigation.

1:15 p.m., near Frontage Road, Detroit Lakes, a vehicle traveling on nearby Highway 59 lost a tire while driving. The tire struck a parked vehicle. No injuries.

1:55 p.m., near Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

4:11 p.m., at Walmart, Detroit Lakes, past action, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

6:03 p.m., near 3rd Street, Lake Park, ATV tires stolen.

Tuesday, Sept. 27

12:15 a.m., near Mission Road, Ogema, two previously trespassed individuals were reportedly pounding on the door to a residence. One arrested.

7:59 a.m., near Washington Avenue, Detroit Lakes, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

Patrick Charles Bonga, 40, of Detroit Lakes, was found guilty by a jury on four of five felony charges at the Becker County Courthouse on Friday stemming from a June 7 incident at his home in Detroit Lakes. Bonga could serve more than 13 years in prison based on Minnesota sentencing guidelines. Sentencing will take place at the Becker County Courthouse on Jan. 18.
The psychologist lied about providing services to at least 29 members of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, resulting in more than half a million dollars in losses to the tribe.
Police said they are looking for James Kollie Jr. He may be driving the victim’s black Honda Pilot with license plate HFE185, police said.
Patrick Charles Bonga took the stand in his own defense during his felony assault and false imprisonment trial at the Becker County Courthouse on Dec. 1. Bonga is accused of burning Alexander Robare with a pot of boiling water, chaining him to a post inside his residence and assaulting him over a period of about three hours on June 7.

9:09 a.m., near County Road 6, Detroit Lakes, a man, a woman and two dogs were found dead. The case is under investigation.

9:23 a.m., near north River Drive, Frazee, tools and copper wire were stolen from an Otter Tail Power work truck.

10:28 a.m., near Ogema, a fight involving students on a school bus was reported.

11:24 a.m., near west Lake Sallie Drive, Detroit Lakes, unknown medical. CPR was performed at the scene. A rural Detroit Lakes man was transported to a nearby medical clinic.

11:54 a.m., near 2nd Street, Lake Park, employee theft. About $700 in Visa gift cards were stolen. The case is under investigation.

1:24 p.m., near north Lake Street, Frazee, a vaping device was confiscated from a student.

3:35 p.m., near north Lake Street, Frazee, a previously trespassed student returned to the property. The case has been forwarded to the county prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

3:54 p.m., near Willow Street and Rossman Avenue, Detroit Lakes, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

5:05 p.m., near Washington Avenue, Detroit Lakes, a toolbox was reported stolen from a truck.

6:29 p.m., near east Frazee Street, Detroit Lakes, a man was issued a trespass notice.

6:51 p.m., near 132nd Avenue, Lake Park, a rental cabin was burglarized. Tools, a television and other smaller items were stolen.

Wednesday, Sept. 28

8:15 a.m., at Detroit Lakes High School, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

8:39 a.m., near West River Road, Detroit Lakes, items stolen from multiple unlocked vehicles at Prairie Winds Apartments. Items included: a new bow, multiple wallets and other small items.

12:01 p.m., near Ogema, drug paraphernalia was found. Item field tested positive for methamphetamine. It was destroyed.

2:13 p.m., at Walmart, Detroit Lakes, shoplifting.

2:43 p.m., at Detroit Lakes High School, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

2:45 p.m., near County Road 9, Lake Park, single-vehicle crash. A 17-year-old Barneville woman was not wearing her seat belt and reportedly was “thrown around.” She was transported to a nearby clinic with unknown injuries in a personal vehicle.

4:22 p.m., at Detroit Lakes High School, a vaping device was confiscated from a student. The student will be disciplined internally.

7:04 p.m., near Elbow Lake Drive, Ponsford, a woman reported being strangled by her boyfriend. No medical transport needed. Officers were unable to locate the suspect and the incident remains under investigation.

9:34 p.m., near Highway 10 and County Road 15, Audubon, a vehicle was reported in a roadside ditch. The driver said they fell asleep at the wheel. No injuries.

11:00 p.m., near Frazee, threatening messages directed toward a juvenile were reported.
