Crime and fire report: Perham man accosts staff at Detroit Lakes Walmart, permanently trespassed from store

According to emergency dispatch report, a 43-year-old Perham man was reportedly yelling at store employees in a back room area of the store. The man was advised that he will be trespassed from the store and told to "never" return. The man left without incident.

Thursday, Sept. 29

8:17 a.m., near Randolph Road, Detroit Lakes, a possible email scam was reported by a business.

9:32 a.m., Senior Complex, Naytahwaush, theft reported.

4:06 p.m., near Front Street, Frazee, a woman attempted to pay a business using a counterfeit $100 bill. The bill was not accepted. The woman took the bill and left.

4:37 p.m., near west State Street, Detroit Lakes, a syringe was found in an alley.

7:20 p.m., near Ogema, suspected drug activity was reported.

10:59 p.m., near Phinney Avenue, Detroit Lakes, loose change was stolen from an unlocked vehicle.

Friday, Sept. 30

7:58 a.m., near Barbara Avenue, Detroit Lakes, a vehicle was reported stolen and then recovered a short time later unoccupied. The case is under investigation.

Patrick Charles Bonga, 40, of Detroit Lakes, was found guilty by a jury on four of five felony charges at the Becker County Courthouse on Friday stemming from a June 7 incident at his home in Detroit Lakes. Bonga could serve more than 13 years in prison based on Minnesota sentencing guidelines. Sentencing will take place at the Becker County Courthouse on Jan. 18.
The psychologist lied about providing services to at least 29 members of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, resulting in more than half a million dollars in losses to the tribe.
Police said they are looking for James Kollie Jr. He may be driving the victim’s black Honda Pilot with license plate HFE185, police said.
Patrick Charles Bonga took the stand in his own defense during his felony assault and false imprisonment trial at the Becker County Courthouse on Dec. 1. Bonga is accused of burning Alexander Robare with a pot of boiling water, chaining him to a post inside his residence and assaulting him over a period of about three hours on June 7.

10:40 a.m., near east Central Street, Detroit Lakes, a report of two women fighting. Minor injuries reported. A 20-year-old Mahnomen man was arrested at the scene for an outstanding warrant.

11:23 a.m., near Washington Avenue, Detroit Lakes, a JBL speaker, other small items and possibly a vehicle title were stolen from an unlocked pickup truck.

11:36 a.m., near Highway 10 and Washington Avenue, Detroit Lakes, three-vehicle crash. No injuries.

3:01 p.m., at Walmart, Detroit Lakes, shoplifting.

3:14 p.m., near Rossman Avenue, Detroit Lakes, a vaping device was confiscated from a student. The parents were notified and the school will discipline internally.

9:08 p.m., near Detroit Lakes, a 63-year-old Detroit Lakes man was threatening self-harm while possibly intoxicated. He was transported to Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes for evaluation.

10:35 p.m., near 4th Street, Lake Park, domestic incident. A 45-year-old Lake Park man was arrested at the scene.

Saturday, Oct. 1

11:09 a.m., near Old Mill Road and 525th Avenue, Osage, single-vehicle rollover. An 18-year-old woman, of Ekalaka, Mont., was reported as trapped. She suffered a bruised arm and did not require any medical transport.

11:53 a.m., near Heights Ridge Lake, Detroit Lakes, a capped syringe was found.

2:49 p.m., near Highway 34, Osage, a shed and garage were reported as on-fire. Scene cleared and blaze contained after about 40 minutes.

6:21 p.m., near Elm Street, Detroit Lakes, physical altercation reported. No injuries. A 35-year-old Detroit Lakes man was arrested at the scene.

7:24 p.m., near 132nd Avenue, Lake Park, burglary reported.

10:58 p.m., near Beaver Trail, Ogema, a 17-year-old girl was reported missing.

Sunday, Oct. 2

1:23 a.m., near Town Lake Estates Road, Frazee, suspected drug activity reported. A 20-year-old Vergas woman was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

7:21 a.m., near Main Street, Ogema, unknown medical. A 57-year-old Ogema man was found unresponsive and not breathing. CPR was administered at the scene by first responders, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

2:13 p.m., near Grant Street and Roosevelt Avenue, Detroit Lakes, street sign damaged.

3:45 p.m., near Airport Road and Highway 10, Detroit Lakes, hit-and-run involving a parked vehicle. The incident is under investigation.

3:54 p.m., at Walmart, Detroit Lakes, two-vehicle crash. No injuries.

7:46 p.m., at Walmart, Detroit Lakes, a 43-year-old Perham man was reportedly yelling at store employees in a back room area of the store. The man was advised that he will be trespassed from the store and told never to return. The man left without incident.

8:46 p.m., near Frazee Road, and 137th Street, Frazee, a vehicle struck a tree. The vehicle appeared to be abandoned.

11:17 p.m., near Highway 59 and County Road 131, Detroit Lakes, single-vehicle crash. A 30-year-old St. Paul woman was transported to a nearby medical clinic with unknown injuries.
