David Stowman gets Golden Quill Award from UND Law School

The award was given in recognition of the 50-year anniversary of his graduation from the school of law.

DETROIT LAKES — Detroit Lakes attorney David Stowman was presented the Golden Quill Award by the University of North Dakota Law School at UND’s Homecoming on Sept. 30.

The award was given in recognition of the 50-year anniversary of his graduation from the school of law.

“I’m honored by the recognition,” Stowman commented, and continued, with a smile, “I have enjoyed my first 50 years of practice, and I’m looking forward to the next 50 years.”

Stowman moved to Detroit Lakes in 1972, when he started his legal career. He practices accident injury law with his son, Jeff Stowman, at Stowman Law Firm, P.A. He has served as Minnesota State Bar Association president, was named a Minnesota Attorney of the Year, and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Minnesota State Bar Association.

Wade Alfred Olds, 53, of Detroit Lakes was charged Nov. 22 in Becker County District Court with two felony criminal vehicular homicide charges involving driving while intoxicated. He is also charged with one felony count of criminal vehicular operation.
According to court records, on Sept. 29, 2021 he was arrested in the Holy Rosary Church parking lot in Detroit Lakes, after a KOPS (Keeping Our Police Safe) Alert was issued by Becker County dispatch a day earlier.
Two sedans and a deer were involved in an accident along County Highway 21, Detroit Lakes. The drivers of the sedans were 24 years old and 37 years old. Injuries were reported.
