Detroit Lakes father and son injured in two-vehicle crash on County Road 6, son airlifted to Fargo

A two-vehicle crash along County Road 6 on Sept. 7 injured a father and son from Detroit Lakes. The 17-year-old son suffered serious injuries during the crash and was airlifted to Essentia Health in Fargo.

DETROIT LAKES — A father and son from Detroit Lakes were injured on County Road 6 during a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday evening.

On Sept. 7 at 6:28 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a report of a two-vehicle crash involving multiple injuries.

Randy Robert Hunter, 41, of Detroit Lakes, was traveling with his son, Caleb John Hunter, 17, on County Road 6 about three miles west of Highway 59, in their 2020 Chevrolet Silverado with a boat attachment. Their truck pulled off the road and one of the men exited the vehicle to attend to their boat and trailer attachment.

As they were attending to the trailer, the truck was reportedly rear-ended by a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 driven by Garret Robert Hilde, 16, of Audubon.

Caleb Hunter suffered serious injuries during the crash and was airlifted to Essentia Health in Fargo for emergency treatment. Randy Hunter was transported by ambulance to Essentia Health St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes for treatment of unknown injuries. Hilde did not report suffering any injuries at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by the Becker County Sheriff's Office.
