DETROIT LAKES — Alexander John Coyne, 33, of Detroit Lakes has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony possession of child pornographic work; prior conviction; registered predatory offender; minor under age 13.
According to court records, on Aug. 19, 2020, agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and other Becker County law enforcement officers served a search warrant at Coyne’s residence for electronic devices and other materials related to possession of child pornography.
Upon arrival, the agents found the residence to be unoccupied and began executing the warrant. Agents located numerous electronic devices and numerous electronic storage devices in the residence. When Coyne came home, he was informed of the warrant and his vehicle was searched. A cracked LG phone was found hidden near the front passenger seat. The device was in “airplane” mode and could not be detected with a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi locating device. The device was searched and was discovered to contain at least two images of naked girls.
Coyne admitted that he had saved or downloaded images of underage girls to his LG device because they were “beautiful girls,” and admitted to having sexual fantasies about them, adding that he knew this was “not right.”
He was convicted of solicitation of a child to engage in sexual conduct in 2019 and was also convicted of three counts of possession of pornographic works in 2019 and is on supervised probation.
