Frazee woman sentenced for giving officer a false name

On March 19, the woman was pulled over after a deputy saw her vehicle cross over into the oncoming traffic lane. She did not have her driver's license and gave the deputy an incorrect name. When told she would be arrested if she did not give her true identity, she identified herself and was arrested on a Clay County warrant.

BECKER COUNTY — Isabelle Rose Leal, 26, of Frazee has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for giving a false name to a peace officer, a misdemeanor.

A felony charge of fifth-degree controlled substance crime was dropped in a plea agreement.

According to court records, on March 19, she was pulled over in Detroit Lakes after a deputy saw her vehicle cross over into the oncoming traffic lane. Leal did not have her driver's license and gave the deputy an incorrect name at first. When told she would be arrested if she did not give her true identity, Leal identified herself, and was arrested on a Clay County warrant. The deputy received consent to search the vehicle and found 0.71 grams of field-positive methamphetamine.

On March 21, Becker County District Judge Jay Carlson sentenced Leal on the misdemeanor to 90 days in jail, with 87 days stayed one year, and credit for three days served.

She must pay a $150 fine and $225 in court fees, and was placed on unsupervised probation for a year.
