Bucks Mill Brewery and other area homebrewers brought in dozens of thirsty patrons for the Home Brew Tasting event on Feb. 24 as part of Polar Fest 2022.
The tasting was a way for members of Bucks Mill Brewery to get to know Detroit Lakes residents and their palates a little better, said Chris Kaml, co-founder of Bucks Mill Brewery.
"This is the kickoff moment and everybody gets to come in, sample some beers, and get super excited ... and interact with us before we even open," said Kaml. "I'm just overjoyed with the amount of support and love that people are showing."
Designs for the new Bucks Mill Brewery on Washington Avenue in Detroit Lakes were also on display at the event to show what their building will look like this summer, which the owners have targeted as their potential opening.
He said, while the renovation of their space still has a long way to go, the brewery still plans on engaging with the community throughout the construction process and hopes to create that home-away-from-home for every beer connoisseur. The event featured 15 flavorful offerings from the Bucks Mill Brewery boys and a handful of other tasty samples from area homebrewers, who were excited to let community members sample their hard work.
Nick Brown, a homebrewer from Pelican Rapids, said he doesn't plan on jumping from homebrewer to brewery any time soon, but loves the hobby of brewing his own beer and sours. He said it isn't that much different than cooking a meal from a recipe, but, in this case, you drink it.
The brewery is also starting a plank-owner program for early donors, which includes: buy-one-beer-get-one-free every day for life; exclusive invitations to the soft opening and other events; a $100 gift card for Bucks Mill Brewery merchandise; acknowledgment on the taproom signage; a founding member hat and stainless steel pint tumbler; and other discounts. The plank-owner program starts at $1,000 for a single person and $1,500 for a couple.
"People are like, wait a minute, so you are saying I get a buy-one-get-one beer for life, absolutely, yeah you do," said Chris Kaml. "It's only one per day, but it's still a free beer, every single day."
