DETROIT LAKES — The 43rd annual Art in the Park drew hundreds of people to peruse through the 40-plus vendors that set up shop at Detroit Lakes' City Park on Sunday, July 24.
Tanja Zentz was one of the shoppers and her eyes were on a special blend seasoning being offered. The Park Rapids resident learned the All Terrain seasoning could be sprinkled on a variety of meats. After a taste test with the seasoning on steak, she nodded.
“I’m going to buy some!” she declared.
Spices and fresh vegetables were popular items. Julie Miller examined the vendor booth filled with fresh produce. When the Waubun resident approached the vendor she picked out her favorite vegetables.
“I come here every year,” Miller said. “I love the fresh produce and seeing all of the artists' work.

One artist that drew a crowd was Gary Harbo. The Eagan, Minn., resident has attended the Art in the Park event for the past decade, to sell his books.
“I go to a lot of fine art shows and word of mouth spreads when you’re an artist and there is an event like this,” he said. “I always have good sales and see repeat customers.”
One such customer was Tina Somerdahl. The Thief River Falls, Minn., resident took the two hour drive south to attend the event.
“I picked up one of his books at a rummage sale and just loved it,” she said.
Another artist admirer was Elli Schlieman. The 10-year-old had just arrived with her twin sister Alayna and their mother Teressa. The Detroit Lakes residents were eager to make the rounds and see what the artists and vendors had to offer. But first, Schlieman tried her hand at becoming a puppeteer. After getting the puppet dog to stand on all fours, she decided puppet mastery was not in her summer plans.
In the bandshell, park visitors were invited to join in the 24-hour worship service that included live music by Pastor Trevor Janich and members of True Life Assembly of God Church .
The church also hosted a free clothes giveaway near the band shell.
