A Level 3 sex offender is moving to rural Vergas, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

George Joseph Hecker, 48, will be moving to the vicinity of County Highway 130, rural Vergas – in Candor Township – on Aug. 28.

A community notification meeting is set for 6 p.m., Aug. 25, at the Vergas Event Center, located at 140 West Linden Street, Vergas.

Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Corrections and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office will be there to answer any questions on public safety or other concerns.

Hecker was sentenced to 34 months in prison in 2005 for second-degree criminal sexual conduct, and was sentenced to 76 months in prison at St. Cloud in 2010 for possession of pornographic works by a registered predatory offender, according to court records.

According to a fact sheet released by the Alexandria (Minnesota) Police Department, Hecker engaged in separate incidents of sexual contact with a known teen-aged female.

He was later found to be in possession of child sexual abuse images, according to the fact sheet.

Hecker was originally set to move to Alexandria on July 14. It’s not clear why his plans changed to Vergas.

A Level 3 predatory offender is considered most at risk of re-offending, which is why state law provides for the community notification meeting.
